Aruna Lama, born on 9 September 1945 in Ghoom Pahar, Darjeeling, was an Indian‑born Nepali‑language singer widely honored as the “Nightingale of the Hills.” Her musical journey began at age seven under the encouragement of her uncle C.B. Lama, and she went on to become one of the most influential voices in Nepali modern music. Known for her expressive, melancholic tone and lyrical depth, she recorded hundreds of songs, including major film numbers that shaped the emotional landscape of Nepali cinema. Her signature hits include “Pohor Saal Khusi,” “Eh Kancha Malai Sunko Tara,” and many enduring modern classics.
