Megha Shrestha

Ajit Ghising Tamang was born on February 14 in Thulopakhar-1, Sindhupalchowk, as the eldest son of Dil Bdr. Tamang and Pancha Maya Tamang. Raised in a middle-class family, he has one brother and two sisters. Growing up, Ajit was shy and reserved, especially around girls, but he gradually became more open and confident as he progressed through his education. He completed his schooling up to grade 10 at Shree Kakaling School in Sindhupalchowk. Later, he moved to Kathmandu, where he pursued his +2 and Bachelor of Arts degrees from Ratna Rajya College. Initially, he had no aspirations to become a singer; his interest in music developed during his college years. Encouraged by friends, he began singing and took music classes at institutions like Kirateshwor, Sadhana Kala Kendra, and Jana Sanskriti Manch. He expresses deep gratitude to his teachers, including Madhu Gurung, Bishnu Lama, and Prakash Gurung, for their support and encouragement. Ajit's musical journey began with recording a song on a whim, which led to his first album, "Path", released in 2063 BS (2006 AD). He followed it up with "Dahar" in 2065 BS (2008 AD) and later "Taali". Over the years, he has recorded over 95 songs, showcasing his versatility as a singer, composer, and music arranger.

Brata Gandarva, a renowned folk singer and Sarangi player, was born on 25th Poush, 2043 BS, in Jarayotar, Palpale, Bhojpur. She is the fourth daughter of Dambar Gandharba and Chija Maya Gandharba. Growing up in a large family with two brothers and six sisters, Brata's childhood was marked by a deep connection to music, especially Sarangi. Her father, a professional Sarangi player, and her mother, who also played the instrument, were her primary sources of inspiration. Though Brata was initially shy and quiet as a child, her love for Sarangi and singing gradually grew as she accompanied her mother around the village, performing and learning the traditional craft. The family's financial struggles further motivated Brata to continue the musical tradition, as it was both a means of sustenance and a way of life. Education and Musical Journey: Unlike many musicians, Brata didn’t receive formal schooling during her early years in the village. However, her connection with music was solidified when she met Gopal Siwakoti Chintan, a renowned figure who inspired her to pursue formal education and music training. Upon moving to Kathmandu, Brata joined Tri-Ratna Cooperative School, where she completed her S.L.C. and later went on to study at Lalit Kala Campus, earning her I.A. degree. She is currently in her B.A. 2nd year at the same institution. Her musical journey began under the mentorship of her parents, with her father being a significant influence on her playing technique. After moving to Kathmandu, she continued her training at Nepal Sangh Vidhalaya, under the guidance of Shyam Nepali, and started recording her songs in Music Nepal around 2053 BS. Brata’s contributions to folk music extend beyond her own performances; she is also a dedicated teacher, sharing her knowledge of Sarangi with students six days a week at various institutions.

Durga Kharel, born on the 5th of Kartik in Bhadrapur, Jhapa, is a talented Nepali singer known for her melodious voice. The youngest in a family of five siblings, Durga was always supported by her family, especially her parents Khem Raj and Laxmi Kharel. Musical Journey: Durga’s passion for music began in her childhood, but it wasn’t until she moved to Kathmandu in 2059 BS that she pursued it seriously. She completed her B. Music degree at Indira Sangeet Vidyaalaya, where she honed her skills. Her breakthrough came when she participated in Nepali Tara in 2062 BS, where she reached the top ten. This exposure led to several offers to sing in collection albums, and in 2064 BS, she released her debut solo album, Dil, which marked her as a recognized name in Nepali music. Durga is currently working on her second solo album, promising to bring more of her distinctive sound to her fans.
