Ustad Sahila, born (Asta Man Shrestha) in Asaar 1951, was a pioneering figure in Nepali folk‑based musical innovation. Known for introducing a fresh dimension to Nepali lok‑laya, he blended traditional rhythms with expressive vocal phrasing that made his songs deeply memorable. He trained in Kolkata under respected maestros Pandit Laxmikanta, Ustad Surya Mishra, and Ustad Shiva, gaining a strong classical foundation that shaped his unique style. In 1990 B.S., he recorded his songs in Kolkata, producing seven gramophone discs, a rare achievement for a Nepali artist of his era. His popular songs include “Kalo Theki Naran Kali Kathako”, which remains a beloved folk classic. Ustad Sahila passed away on Magh 15, 2013, leaving behind an important musical legacy.  

Raj Rai is a rising Nepali singer hailing from Okhaldhunga, whose emotionally rich voice and heartfelt delivery first caught national attention during The Voice of Nepal Season 3. His memorable Blind Audition performance of “Panchi” by Pushpan Pradhan showcased his deep connection to Nepali melodies and earned him a loyal fan base. Beyond the television spotlight, Raj has continued to grow as a versatile folk and contemporary singer. He gained significant recognition through his involvement in the popular Purbeli Juhari song: “Besi Gaiko Goth” – Performed alongside Abhay Dhungel, Alina Rai, and Susmita Katwal, this culturally resonant song brings to life everyday stories from the eastern hills of Nepal, particularly from Mane Bhanjyang, Unbu, Waksa, and Udaypur. The song’s lively rhythm and nostalgic lyrics have made it a fan favorite on social platforms. Raj Rai’s style balances the power of traditional storytelling with modern arrangements, contributing to a new wave of Nepali music that feels both rooted and refreshing.

Dwarika Lal Joshi is a respected Nepali folk singer known for his powerful, earthy vocal style and his contribution to preserving authentic Nepali lok‑geet. He first gained national recognition as one of the early recording voices of the iconic folk tune Resham Firiri, helping bring traditional melodies into mainstream listening. Joshi’s heartfelt delivery in songs like Maiti Ghar Timro Haina and the lively Dhanga Maruni Bhamcha has strengthened his reputation as a singer deeply rooted in cultural storytelling. His music blends emotional depth with rural folk rhythms, making his work popular across generations. Through decades of dedication, Joshi has contributed significantly to documenting, performing, and promoting Nepal’s folk heritage on stage and in recordings.

Anita Chalaune (अनिता चलाउने) is a vibrant and popular Nepali folk and Lok Dohori singer, known for her powerful vocals, catchy melodies, and dynamic stage presence. She has carved a niche in the modern Nepali music scene with a string of hit songs that blend traditional rhythms with contemporary flair. She’s also known for her collaborations with artists like Raju Dhakal, Rabi Oad, and Prabin Bedwal, and her songs often feature in Teej and Deuda celebrations.
