Balanda Rai

Krishna Man, born in Ashar 1982 BS (1925 AD) in Bandegaon, Lalitpur, is one of the foundational figures of early modern Nepali music. He began his musical career in 2008 BS (1951/1952 AD) by composing for Satyanarayan Dangol’s song “Timrai Khatir Ni Sodhinau Maile Abiral Aansu Bagaye” shortly after the establishment of democracy in Nepal.Around 2016 BS (1959/1960 AD), he recorded two songs in Kolkata, marking his entry into the international music scene. In the same year, he gained significant recognition for composing music for Balkrishna Sama’s acclaimed play “Ma”. He also taught Nepali folk songs to Chinese dancers, earning international appreciation, and received a commendation from King Mahendra the following year.In 2019 BS (1962/1963 AD), he secured second place at Radio Nepal’s All Nepal Modern and Folk Song Conference and received a medal from King Mahendra. In 2020 BS (1963/1964 AD), he was honored again as the Best Composer.He completed a Bachelor’s degree in Classical Music from Allahabad around 2030 BS (1973/1974 AD) and participated in numerous national and international programs. In 2033 BS (1976/1977 AD), he was decorated with the Gorkha Dakshin Bahu (Fifth Class). In 2047 BS (1990/1991 AD), he won first place in modern songs at Radio Nepal. In 2048 BS (1991/1992 AD), he received an appreciation certificate from Ganeshman Singh for his music direction in the film “Aajako Yuwa”.His body of work includes 30 bhajans, 12 Newari songs, national songs, and film compositions released through cassettes and CDs, along with 34 bhajan videos produced for Nepal Television.

Tilak Singh Pela is a revered name in Nepali classical and modern music, known for his soulful voice, deep-rooted classical training, and dedication to nurturing future generations of musicians. Born in Dashrathchand Municipality, Baitadi, in the Sudurpaschim Province of Nepal, Pela has spent over two decades enriching the Nepali music scene with his artistry and mentorship. Classical Music Journey Studied Indian classical music at Prayag Sangeet Samiti, Allahabad, India. Trained under Guru Debashish Dev and Pandit Dhana Bahadur Gopali. Founded Shree Krishna Gurukul Sangeet Pathshala in Banasthali, Kathmandu. As a music instructor and founder, he has mentored numerous young talents who now contribute actively to Nepali music. Kalyan Singh is a Nepali composer and songwriter. His works include Santosh Lama‘s ‘Batuwa’, Hemanta Rana‘s ‘Raat Ki Raani’ and ‘Muskaan’, and Nima Rumba’s ‘Jaadu’, among others. He has also directed music for films — ‘Visa Girl’, ‘Mukhauta’ and ‘Hasiya’. With the knack of composing different styles of music, he is one of the capable composers of Nepali industry. Musical roots Singh was born on March 2, 1983. He was born into a musical family. His father, Bhagat Singh was an instrumentalist who worked at Radio Nepal and it was him who taught him music. He started learning music with the harmonium. By the age of seven, he had learnt the violin. Even though he learned and played music in the next several years, he had not planned to pursue music professionally. On the other hand, nobody in his family thought that he would be in the music filed. Turning point After completing his Bachelors level of education in 2002/3, Singh wanted to go to Australia for his further studies. But he was turned down and so he picked up music instead. With the help of his brother, renowned music director Raju Singh, he debuted as a singer with his first album titled ‘Fly’ in 2005/6. Singh had written and composed five songs out of seven tracks for ‘Fly’. However, ‘Fly’ didn’t go well. And so, he chose to become a composer. Moreover, an incident took place at one of the FM stations during the promotion of ‘Fly’. The ‘hurting’ episode made him determined to become a composer as he felt, “I won’t come to this FM station but my music will.” If that incident hadn’t taken place in his life, he wouldn’t have worked hard and become a composer. His willpower to become a composer was further supported and encouraged by photographer, cover designer, Lyricist Anil Sthapit.
