Kishan Gurung, affectionately known as Kris, is a Nepali folk-pop singer known for his evocative voice, heartfelt lyrics, and emotional storytelling. Though born in Punjab, India, Gurung was raised in Nepal from the age of two, where his connection to the country’s culture and music deeply shaped his artistic identity. While his early life revolved around sports and a carefree youth, it was music that ultimately defined his path. His passion for singing emerged later in life, but once discovered, it quickly became the driving force of his creative journey. After settling in Gongabu, Kathmandu, he immersed himself in the local music scene, refining his craft and finding his unique voice. Musical Style and Themes As a folk-pop artist, Gurung blends traditional Nepali melodies with contemporary pop influences. His music often explores themes of love, longing, village life, and emotional resilience, resonating with listeners across generations. Prem Raja Mahat is a renowned Nepali folk singer, songwriter, and musician. Often referred to as the "Elvis of the Himalayas," he has made significant contributions to Nepali folk music since the late 1970s. Some of his timeless classics include Bajho Khet Ma, Paan Ko Paat, and Simsime Panima. He is also known for playing traditional Nepali instruments like the sarangi and madal. Born in Tanahun, Nepal, Prem Raja Mahat faced hardships early in life, losing both parents at a young age. Despite these challenges, he pursued his passion for music and became a celebrated artist. In 1996, he immigrated to the United States, where he continued to create music and even opened a Nepali restaurant in Baltimore

Dhana Bahadur was a leading advocate for sarangi preservation, a respected singer, and a dedicated lyric collector from Batulechaur, Pokhara. He is widely remembered as the creator of the evergreen songs “Naraunu Mayalu” and “Beli ra Chameli,” beautifully performed by singer Prabin Gurung. Committed to safeguarding Nepal’s folk heritage, he operated a Sarangi Pathshala, teaching children and youth and nurturing a new generation of sarangi players. He passed away on Magh 11, 2077, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire Nepali folk music and sarangi culture.

Nawin K. Khadka is a Nepali Purbeli folk singer, composer, and cultural documentarian known for preserving Eastern Nepal’s Jhyaure, Khyali, and traditional dance‑based musical heritage. Active through the Arun Valley Cultural Research Center, he has performed and composed major works such as “Chha Salam Kasari Bolau,” “Hou Bari Lai Lai,” “Hunna Ma Bhane Ram Saili,” and “Ama Jyu Ko Butte Ma Choli.” Khadka frequently serves as singer, music composer, videographer, editor, and director, making him one of the few multi‑disciplinary creators in Purbeli folk. His projects highlight authentic Sankhuwasabha–Arun Upatyaka rhythms, traditional dance forms, and community‑based cultural preservation.
