Madhav Prasad Ghimire

Madhav Prasad Ghimire was a celebrated Nepali poet and scholar, honored as the "Rashtrakavi" (National Poet) of Nepal. Born on September 23, 1919, in Lamjung, Nepal, he had a literary career spanning over eight decades. His works, such as Gauri, Malati Mangale, Shakuntala, and Himal Pari Himal Wari, are considered masterpieces of Nepali literature. Ghimire's poetry often explored themes of nature, romance, patriotism, and societal truths. He was inspired by the works of Rabindranath Tagore and contributed significantly to Nepali literature through epic poems, plays, essays, and songs. He also served as the Vice Chancellor and Chancellor of the Royal Nepal Academy. He passed away on August 18, 2020, at the age of 100, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire generations.

Neer Shah is the producer or co-producer of many Nepali movies. He has also directed several Nepali movies produced by himself, including Basudev, Pachchis Basanta, Basanti, and a Nepal Bhasa movie Rajamati. He is also a co-producer of the Oscar nominated film Himalaya – l’enfance d’un chef, which was co-produced and directed by the French movie maker Eric Valli. The film, also released as Caravan (in Canada) and Himalaya (in Denmark and France), was the first film from Nepal to win an Oscar nomination.

Lochan Rijal is a multi-instrumentalist, a singer, songwriter and a scholar of ethnomusicology. Born in the Panchthar district of Nepal, he grew up around music performed at festivals by the local people of that region. The experience influenced him to explore the potential of sound and develop his passion into his profession. While in college, he began teaching music to school children in Kathmandu while also working in the pop and rock music scene, producing award-winning albums, before moving onto something that fed his scholarly ambitions. In 2014, he graduated with a PhD in ethnomusicology from the University of Massachusetts and Kathmandu University. He also works as the associate professor and Head of Kathmandu University’s Department of Music.
