Shanti Shree Pariyar

Sukmit Gurung, originally Sukmit Ongmu Lepcha, is a Nepali singer known for her contributions to modern classical Nepali music. She was born in Gangtok, Sikkim, and later settled in Nepal. Her musical journey began when she won a voice contest organized by Radio Nepal, which helped her establish herself in the Nepali music industry. She debuted in Ambar Gurung's musical play "Malati Mangale", and her first recorded song was "Sunchadi Bhanda Mahango", a duet with Om Bikram Bista. Some of her most popular songs include "Priyatam", "Relimai", "Pal Pal", and "Dhoka Dieu Timile". She has sung over 400 songs, collaborating with renowned musicians like Gopal Yonzon, Ambar Gurung, and Sambhujeet Baskota. Beyond Nepali music, she has also performed in Newari and Japanese and represented Nepal in the ABU Golden Kite WSF 1990, an international music festival. She has contributed to charity performances in Nepal and abroad and worked as an assistant music director at Nepal Pragya Prathisthan, a government organization promoting Nepali literature, music, and culture.

Ustad Sahila, born (Asta Man Shrestha) in Asaar 1951, was a pioneering figure in Nepali folk‑based musical innovation. Known for introducing a fresh dimension to Nepali lok‑laya, he blended traditional rhythms with expressive vocal phrasing that made his songs deeply memorable. He trained in Kolkata under respected maestros Pandit Laxmikanta, Ustad Surya Mishra, and Ustad Shiva, gaining a strong classical foundation that shaped his unique style. In 1990 B.S., he recorded his songs in Kolkata, producing seven gramophone discs, a rare achievement for a Nepali artist of his era. His popular songs include “Kalo Theki Naran Kali Kathako”, which remains a beloved folk classic. Ustad Sahila passed away on Magh 15, 2013, leaving behind an important musical legacy.

Sawan Joshi is a talented Nepali sitar player, composer, and music teacher known for his soulful renditions of Hindustani classical ragas. With a deep foundation in Indian classical music, he has performed at prestigious venues such as the Harmony Nepal Japan concert at Patan Museum, where he played Raga Bageshree alongside tabla maestro Milesh Tandukar. Sawan has spent several years teaching music in Japan, where he continues to promote South Asian classical traditions to international audiences. His performances are marked by meditative depth, melodic clarity, and a strong sense of raga structure. He is also associated with the Society of Classical Music Nepal, contributing to educational sessions and cultural exchange programs.
