Rajan Raj Shiwakoti

Shiva Shankar Manandhar (1932–2004) was a legendary figure in Nepali music and cinema, celebrated for his versatility as a singer, composer, and actor. Born in Newroad, Kathmandu, to a musically inclined Newar family, his early exposure to classical Newari songs through his father, Man Bahadur, laid the foundation for his lifelong devotion to music. He joined Radio Nepal in 1951, where he collaborated with Nati Kaji to shape the golden era of Nepali music. Over his prolific career, he composed around 1,200 songs and sang nearly 300, spanning genres like love ballads, bhajans, patriotic anthems, and tragic melodies. His compositions for artists such as Narayan Gopal, Tara Devi, and Aruna Lama remain timeless. 🎬 In cinema, Shiva Shankar played the lead role of Lahure Dai in Aama (1964), Nepal’s first feature film. Deepa Narayan Jha is a beloved Nepali playback and modern singer known for her soft, expressive voice and enduring romantic melodies. Rising to prominence through Nepali cinema, she delivered evergreen film hits such as “Ukalima Pachi Pachi,” “Timi Mero Ma Timro,” “Jhuto Haina Yo Kura,” “Ghamailo Ramailo,” and “Suna Suna Mayalu.” Her duets with Udit Narayan and other leading artists became defining classics of the 80s–90s era. With numerous film soundtracks and modern hits, Deepa remains one of the most influential and cherished female voices in Nepali music.

Norden Tenzing is a legendary Nepali vocalist and the charismatic frontman of The Hillians, the pioneering Darjeeling band that helped define the sound of modern Nepali pop and rock. Known for blending Western harmonies with Nepali melodic roots, he became one of the most influential voices of the 1970s–80s music renaissance in the hills. His evergreen hits — “Musu Musu Hasideu,” “Gajalu Aakhai Chopne,” and other beloved tracks — cemented his status as a cultural icon across the Nepali‑speaking world. Norden’s soulful voice, innovative arrangements, and electrifying stage presence introduced a fresh musical identity that inspired generations of artists. Through his work with The Hillians, he expanded the creative possibilities of Nepali modern music and remains celebrated as one of Darjeeling’s most enduring musical legends.
