Sunil Thapa (19 May 1957 – 7 February 2026) was one of the most influential actors in Nepali cinema, celebrated for redefining villainy and character acting across Nepali, Bollywood, and Bhojpuri films. Born in Dang, Nepal, he began his acting career in Bollywood with Ek Duuje Ke Liye and went on to become a household name in Nepal through unforgettable roles—most famously “Rate Kaila” in the cult classic Chino (1989).
His career spanned 1974–2025, with more than 150+ films, making him one of the most prolific actors in Nepali film history.
He passed away on 7 February 2026 in Kathmandu, leaving behind a monumental legacy in South Asian cinema.
